My name is Moryah. I am a Black woman, proud mama of two, and wife. I've lived in NE Portland for over 10 years.
Like the Maya Angelou quote: "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better" I believe we are doing the best we can with the knowledge and resources we have available. When our knowledge, particularly our knowledge of self, increases, so do our resources and our ability to do better. Therapy with me provides you with an opportunity to do better by getting to know yourself better through speaking your truth, feeling heard, and noticing patterns so you can establish boundaries and/or make better choices. In therapy, I’ll support you in creating strategies to cope healthfully, identify goals, expand resources, and hone skills. While we can’t always change the water we swim in or control those around us, we can have control over ourselves and when we focus on this it gives us a greater sense of what our options are, what we are willing to do, and willing to put up with. Together we will create a space for all that you are and are working to be. we will create a safe space to bring and be your full self.
I am passionate about working with Black and brown folks. This is also where I have the most experience personally and professionally. I have worked most extensively with teens, young adults, and families. I love supporting people in navigating relationships of all kinds (friends, family, romantic, work, etc.) and cultivating connection with others.
I also enjoy working with parents, those preparing to enter the journey, pregnant and postpartum mamas, new babas/dads, and those who have been in the game for a while too.
I integrate motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and attachment theory in my work.
At this time, I am seeing clients exclusively through Telehealth.
